NOTE: Upgrading Windows® from a 32-bit to a 64-bit edition (or vice versa) is not a supported direct upgrade and REQUIRES the operating system to be completely re-installed from scratch, a.k.a. Clean Install, along with all software programs, updates, devices and drivers. This type of "upgrade" is much more time consuming and therefore more costly. Windows 11 is NOT available in 32-bit format.
What is an Upgrade versus a Clean Install?
Some earlier Windows editions can be directly upgraded to comparable editions of Windows 10.

An upgrade installation means loading the new operating system on top of the old one and migrating your old documents, settings, and compatible applications. A Clean Install will overwrite your current operating system along with all your documents, programs and settings. These can have several benefits and issues.
Upgrade
Pros
- Less setup time required for the new operating system
- Easier setup with fewer steps
- Preserves applications, data, and settings.
Cons
- Old performance-sapping applications and registry errors will remain
- Slower startup due to existing startup programs and applications
Clean Install
Pros
- Fixes most performance-related problems
- Clears spyware and registry file
- Faster startup due to lack of startup programs and applications
Cons
- Software licenses need to be manually accounted for.
- Setting up the new operating system will take longer
- Need to manually backup documents, applications, and settings in old OS.
